Twitter promotion

The brief

Corporate lunch was a big part of The Terrace Hotel’s business, built around a $25 Quick Lunch: five choices with a glass of wine, a beer or a coffee. A new menu had just launched. The job: spread the word on social and fill the lunch tables.

The work

Earlier competitions had chased Facebook likes, so this one went Twitter only: retweet and follow to win one of five Quick Lunch vouchers. Two messages, five tweets, each short enough to retweet and tagged #perthwin to reach Perth’s competition crowd.

The result

Two tweets in, The Terrace Hotel was trending in Perth and nationally, and it stayed there for more than three hours. The promotion reached more than 70,000 accounts, made more than 154,000 impressions, earned 179 retweets and added 90 followers.

The takeaway

Match the mechanic to the platform. On Twitter, a retweet to enter is the distribution.
